The MUSICC project is a global consortium focused on advancing next-generation COVID-19 vaccines through controlled human infection studies. The goal is to develop vaccines that can prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection entirely, halting transmission.
During the meeting, Dr. Marjolein Kikkert gave a presentation to international partners about recent progress from LUCID's Virus-Host Interactions and Antiviral Strategies research group.
This included: establishing biobanks of virus samples at Erasmus MC and Leiden University Medical Center and creating a GMP-compliant protocol for growing lung-derived organoids, which will be used to support the production of SARS-2 and OC43 viruses.
Alongside the scientific programme, participants took part in an engaging djembe drum workshop and enjoyed the opportunity to socialise and strengthen relationships with MUSICC partners.
