Mariet Feltkamp has been appointed endowed professor of Medical Microbiology, with a focus on preventing the transmission of viral infections through blood transfusion and organ transplantation. Her chair connects Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) and Sanquin Blood Supply. This dual position reflects the breadth of her work, which ranges from selecting and testing donors to improving the resilience of transplant recipients.
Prof Dr Annemieke Geluk, LUCID-R, LUMC, has been awarded the 2026 Eijkman Medal in recognition of her outstanding contributions to global health! The Eijkman medal is awarded once every 2 years by the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) to someone whom has contributed strongly to tropical or global health, in particular in low and middle income countries.
