Title: Combatting TB: Antibodies driving mycobacterial control
Tuberculosis (TB) is still a major human threat, resulting in one death every 22 seconds. TB is caused by infection with the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) and mostly presents as pulmonary disease, which spreads via aerosol droplets. Host defense against mycobacteria is incompletely understood.
Dr. Simon Jochems and dr. Lisa King have received an NWO Open Technologies Programme Grant for the project Tailoring Immunostimulators To elicit Airway ProtectioN (TITAN). This is a 660k grant between the LUMC and Staten Serum Institute to test novel prophylactics compounds that can protect against respiratory tract infections.
