A pioneer in the field of infectious diseases, she leads the Translational Parasitology group within LUCID Research, which is developing a single-dose malaria vaccine using an artificially engineered weakened parasite in controlled human infection models.
In addition to her work at LUMC, she recently founded the non-profit organizations InFECT-NL and INFECTA to connect expertise in the Netherlands and accelerate early clinical testing of new vaccines and medicines.
KNAW appointments are awarded based on outstanding scientific and scholarly achievement. A limited number of new members are elected every year, who hold the position for life.
