We discussed ongoing studies and explored new project ideas focused on our antigen-based diagnostics for schistosomiasis, including the POC-CCA test and our lab-based, highly sensitive UCP-LF CAA assay. These tools can detect low-intensity infections that are often missed by conventional methods. In addition, we discussed opportunities for future clinical studies in Brazil, as well as strategies for implementation and capacity building to support the use of these antigen diagnostics in endemic areas. We were joined by Erik Coumou (Landcent Europe), and together we explored how to further advance and apply our schistosomiasis diagnostic tests in real-world settings.
Strengthening Leiden-Brazil schistosomiasis research collaboration
Recently, Govert van Dam and Pytsje Hoekstra had the pleasure of welcoming André Daher from FIOCRUZ – Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Brazil) to Leiden to discuss collaborations on schistosomiasis research. The visit focused on ongoing work with Fiocruz and aimed to further strengthen the connection between our teams in Brazil and Leiden.
