dr.

Jannie obtained a Bachelor’s in Nutrition and Health and a Master’s in Molecular Nutrition and Toxicology, both at Wageningen University & Research (Wageningen, the Netherlands). With a keen interest for the interaction between nutrition, health and the intestinal microbiome, she obtained her PhD for investigating the maturation of the preterm gastrointestinal tract and microbiome at the Laboratory of Microbiology (Wageningen University & Research) under guidance of Prof. Dr. Jan Knol (Nutricia Research, Utrecht, the Netherlands) and Dr. Clara Belzer.

In her current role, Jannie is affiliated with the Experimental Bacteriology and Microbiome Systems Biology groups. Her primary role is managing the Center for Microbiome Analyses and Therapeutics (CMAT) and its research projects. In addition, she performs research on the human microbiome and its therapeutic potential in a broad range of diseases, with a focus on bacteria, fungi and archaea. Jannie thrives on connecting people and ideas in projects that contribute to human health.
